I recently purchased a copy of Early Settlers of Indiana's "Gore"
1803-1820
expecting to find additional information on some of my many ancestors who
settled in Franklin and Union Counties from 1813-1819. However, it took only
a few minutes going through the index to find that not a single one had been
referenced in this book.
Please keep in mind that the information in the book is primarily deed
abstracts, listings of original land owners and the muster rolls for the War
of 1812. I can check the index for a surname and give you all the
information for that name. I can't tell you where anyone came from,
Another book that may be of some help to those requesting lookups is
"EARLY OHIO SETTLERS - Purchasers of Land in Southwestern Ohio,
1800-1840" by Ellen T. Berry & David A. Berry. This book was publ. 1986
by Genealogical Publ. Co., Baltimore.
This reference includes purchases for land in both the "Gore" of Indiana
and land east and north of the 2nd principal meridian survey which
includes Ranges XI - XV, Twps. 10-23, all in the present State of
Indiana. It includes WHERE the person lived when they purchased the
land (information Mark says his book does not give), the year they
purchased the land, and the location as to range, township, and section.
I found it quite helpful in getting names of possible ancestors that
moved into these areas.
The book may be found in several of the libraries in and around Indiana
and Ohio and possibly in some larger libraries.
AND, there's also the "1st Land Entry Book of Wayne County, IN",
compiled and arranged by Arnold L. Dean, publ. 1994, which covers land
purchases from the first purchase in Dec 9, 1804 to about 1838.

P.S. I do NOT own either book; am posting this to inform others of add'l
sources for information.
