In the search for our ancestor's parents, we've compiled info on various
other BROWNs in Wayne Co ca 1810-1830. One such BROWN we "considered"
was Maj. James BROWN. Our findings on James Brown include this
following; perhaps this data will help someone else!
Tidbits of info on James Brown from Wayne Co. history:

Smith Hunt, Samuel Woods, and James Brown were appointed trustees to lay
off the lots for the town of Salisbury (aka Wayne) in Wayne Co, IN. (aft
June 1811)
Salisbury was located 30 miles n of Brookville.

When General Harrison was appointed to command the Northwest army, after
the surrender of Hull at Detroit, he called upon the Wayne County
regiment for one company to join the expedition north. This regiment,
styled the Eighth, was commanded by George Hunt, colonel, and Smith Hunt
and James Brown, majors.

On the first Monday in August, 1816, a general election was held for
State and county officers. Maj. James Brown was elected as one of three
representatives. He died before he took his seat.
OTHER FINDINGS:
A Peggy Brown appeared on the 1820 Wayne Co, IN census with two young
sons under 10 yrs old.
There was a James Brown and Peggy Smith that married in Wayne Co, IN on
28 May 1811.
