Kim,
I have a copy of a book entitled "Abstracts of the Records of the Society of
Friends in Indiana - Volume 1". It contains information about the
Whitewater Monthly Meeting. James and Rosanna and their children, Thomas,
Rachel, Celah and Charlotte are shown in the section containing birth and
death records. West Grove Monthly Meeting was formed from Whitewater in
1818. Unfortunately, West Grove information is contained in a later volume
that I don't have. I recommend that you visit your local LDS Family History
Center to see if they have (or can order) the later volume. You can also
contact Dr. Thomas Hamm at Earlham College in Richmond. Google will locate
him for you. Good luck.
Frank

Subject: [WAYNE_IN] James Townsend and Rosanna Smith
Hello, I am new to this list. My GGGG grandparents, James Townsend
and
Rosanna Smith Townsend moved to Wayne County around 1810; James died in
Wayne County 1839, Rosanna died 1854 in Wayne County. They were
members of the West Grove Monthly Meeting. I would like to find out
more about their lives and their attendance at the Quaker church.
Their son, Thomas, married Mary Hastings, and they had 9 children; the
third son was Elisha, my g-g grandfather who died as a soldier in the
Civil War. I would like to know at what point the family departed from
the Quaker Faith.
THanks, Kim Townsend Spangrude
