(I am having trouble getting this to post to the list)
I found an archive of Wayne County, Indiana which listed Harrison Allen and Reuben Allen.
I have some information about them that may help the searchers.
There is a book “Some descendants of Thomas Allen of Surry County, North Carolina whose
son Richard Allen brought his family to Wayne County, Indiana in 1828, later migrating to
Fayette and Madison Counties, Indiana. Including some Crouse and Johnson Families
affiliations, also some early Snodgress connections. Collected and inscribed by Edgar B.
Allen.” For short, they are called the “Allen Family Papers”
I do not have the entire book, but through this and other sources, I am listing the
following, some of which is verified and some of which is not. Thomas Allen was a
Revolutionary War veteran, which is mentioned often in the stories I can find about his
descendants. Thomas Allen married Wineford Armour in 1778 in Pasquotank County, North
Carolina. Among their children was a son, Richard Allen.
The book mentions that in 1828, Richard left for Wayne County, Indiana. Richard and Sarah
Johnson had the following children (from the book).
· Levi Allen
· Elizabeth Allen
· Letitia Allen
· Jesse Allen
· Harrison Allen
· Washington Allen
· James Allen
· Reuben Allen
· Mary Allen
I am descended from Washington Allen who has the following excerpt from the “1883 Kankakee
County Historical Atlas”. "Thomas Allen, grandfather of our subject, was an Old
Revolutionary soldier, and served with Gen. Washington, having had a personal experience
with that distinguished General. Richard Allen, a native of South [really North] Caroline,
who died in Madison County, IN, and Sarah, his wife, were the parents of Washington Allen,
who was born 15 Mar 1819, in Surrey County, NC. Mr. Allen left North Carolina in the fall
of 1828, going to Wayne County, IN, where he remained till the spring of 1830, when he
move to Fayette."
