Welcome to the Wayne Co. list.
One of the first settlements in what became Wayne Co., was called the Kentucky settlement.
Some of the people may have come from NC to KY. There were groups of settlers from NC, who
arrived in Wayne Co. in1810 /1811. Many were from Surry, Yadkin, Randolph & Guilford
counties in North Carolina. I had other relatives who came from that area in 1816, the
year Indiana became a state.
I work with a project at Locust Grove M. E. Cemetery in Abington Township, Wayne Co.
There are Wilson burials there- Jonathan Wilson d. Nov. 28,1844
In the 69th year of his age
Mary wife of Jonathan Wilson
d. 3-1-1852 age 74y.- 4m.-1d
Please let me know if you have a connection to them.
All the cemeteries in Wayne County were transcribed by Beverly Yount in the 1960s
& published in a set of 4 volumes "Tombstone Inscriptions in Wayne County,
Indiana"
Morrison Reeves Library in Richmond & the Centerville Public Library have copies.
You can buy reprints from Selby Publishing, 3405 Zartman Rd. Kokomo, Indiana 46902-2979

Subject: [WAYNE_IN] Early Wayne County Settlers, Tax Lists
Greetings!
New to the list. What resources are available on the white settlers to Wayne county in
the 1805-1810 time period, such as tax lists, lists of voters, etc.?
I have heard stories that some of the first settlers to the area were from North Carolina.
Any truth to this?
My surnames here are Wilson and Mosier (maybe Mosier, not sure what her maiden name was).
Many thanks,
Bob Wilson,
Burrton, KS
