Hello Jeff,
I saw the name Merthyr Tydfil, and it caught my attention. Is it a large
town, or would it have been in the 1840-1850's? My great-grandmother
Elizabeth Jane Taylor was born there, which was the home of her mother Mary
Lake, prior to the family immigrating to the US. My g-g-grandfather John
W. Gibson Taylor, born in Nottinghamshire, England, was disinherited for
marrying Mary Lake, so I am interested in finding out what kind of area it
is, industrial, agricultural, etc.
Have a great day,
Merrie

Plymouth was a district of Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan around the
Plymouth
ironworks.
FreeBMD
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ finds a possible marriage of William
EVANS and Ann FRANCIS in Merthyr Tydfil registration district in the first
three months of 1858 (March quarter). They are two of four names on the
same page reference, the other two being Taylor SMITH and Emma PHILLIPS.
In 1861 census in Fforchaman, Aberdare, Taylor SMITH,25 had a wife Emma 22
and two small children, so it looks likely that this William EVANS married
Ann FRANCIS.
As the two marriages on the same page number would have been in the same
location (church, chapel or registry office) there is one couple (among
many William and Ann EVANS couples) that might be of particular interest
in 1861 census, in Fforchaman, Aberdare. Aberdare was in the Merthyr
Tydfil registration district.

I suspect that William EVANS, 22, coal miner, lodging in Spring Street,
Dowlais in 1851 might be the same person.. Ann does not seem to have been
in Glamorgan in 1851.

Hope this helps
