Joan,
I don't know if this Evans family originally came from North Wales. Just
recently discovered on his son's death certificate that he (the son) was
born in Plymouth, Wales. This son is my grandpa's brother. My grandpa
never spoke much about Wales (he was born in Ohio )& of course I never
knew his father. The one thing I had heard was that they came from I
believe Aberdare. And that they were coal miners which they continued
after they moved to Ohio. Wm. Evans & another son, named David both were
killed in a coal mine. So with the information from Jeff, I feel this is
my family. I have 4 different years for the birth of Wm. with 29 April
possibly being the day. The years are 1823,1826,1828 & 1829. Also I
can't prove it but I was told that Wm. (the son) was baptized by Queen
Victoria. I don't know if this was possible or not & the proof is said
to have been destroyed in a flood.
Would like to keep in touch, as you say a stab in the dark is sometimes
very helpful. Maybe together we can make some headway but Evans is not
easy to research !!As you well know.
Thanks for responding,
Emily
Wondering if this W. Evans' family was originally from North Wales? Have
major brickwalls pre 1850's in my research into Evans family from the
Llansilin-Llanrhaeadr Y M, Denbighshire.
Merthyr and South Wales heavy industry areas attracted men from many
areas including Europe.
Just a stab in the dark.
