Looking for the parents of James Tucker Cooms/Coombs/Coomes.
A marriage record for the marriage of a James Coombs and Mary Tucker was found in the
Devon, Eng. area. However the dates were about 100 yrs too soon. Could anyone in your
area have a similar story. Did James mother and siblings return to England, Scotland or
Wales where people of that name seem to derive from?

Here is what I have:
James T. Coomes (known by some as Tucker) was born abt. 1817
(Grayson Co., Va. census in Maryland of English parents). He
married 1st 1843 in Grayson Co., Va., Elizabeth Dunford, 2nd
in Ashe Co., NC., 1857, Amanda Davis.
Family legend tells that his father was reported lost at sea
in a ship where he was captain. The ship was flying the Union
Jack. No name, no time frame of father or ship.
Considering the age of James T. Coomes who went to sea for a
year or more in search of his father that would likely have
been between 1830 to 1843, 13 yrs to 36 years old.
Sons names in order of birth:
Betsy's sons:
William Henry
George W.
Alexander C.
Amanda's sons:
John D.
James Andrew Jackson
Jefferson
Andrew Jasper
