"MANY RELATIVES IN WILKES-BARRE
"Several days ago it was noted in the Record that Isaac Jones, a former
resident of Spring Brook, Lackawanna County, was seriously ill with an
attack of bronchitis, and that his sons and daughters from this city
were summoned to his bedside, fearing a fatal result. On Saturday he
succumbed to the disease. He was 73 years of age and emigrated to this
country 10 years ago from Rhandirmwyn, Carmerthenshire, Wales, where he
was a farmer. No long after arriving here he purchased a large farm at
Spring Brook, but on account of his failing health he sold it a few
years ago. Since then he has lived a retired life, after visiting his
friends in Wilkes-Barre and other towns in Wyoming Valley. He leaves a
widow and a family of children, all of who are well known business men.
Among them are merchant Jonathan R. Jones, East Market street; Evan T.
Jones, farmer, Spring Brook; Richard I. Jones, Dorranceton; Mrs. Jane
Robinson, wife of butcher Robinson, East Market street; Thomas E. Jones,
the well known contractor of Park avenue; Jonathan Jones, fire boss of
the Pettebone shaft, Dorranceton; Mrs. Mary Ann Davis of Rhandirmwhyn,
Wales; merchant Isaac Jones of Kingston; and Miss Sarah Jones, who
resided at home with her parents. He was a companionable gentleman and
was beloved by all who enjoyed his friendship. He was a member of the
Spring Brook Presbyterian Church. The funeral will take place on
Tuesday. The relatives and friends and relatives from this city will
leave on the D. & H. train at 9:05 for Spring Brook. The services will
be held at 2 p.m. at the residence. Rev. Hugh Davis of this city will
officiate. Interment in Spring Brook graveyard, aside of his son who
died several years ago."
