It's been a while since I posted. I am still looking for any leads towards
my gggrandfather, Thomas Davis, of Wales, who left for Baltimore about 1844.
He was a copper smelter and continued that trade in Baltimore until his
death.
There are 2 Thomas Davises who are mixed up in my family tree--both copper
smelters from Wales, coming to Baltimore at about the same time, residing in
the same area and buried in the same cemetery. They both may have been
married to women named Margaret, altho' one was later married to a Catherine
(from Pennsylvania).
Children included David W. and William (both born in Wales) and John L.
(born in Maryland). One had a daughter, Margaret.
It is possible that these families were from the Swansea District (only
because many of the copper workers in Baltimore were from that area) and
that they arrived in New Orleans rather than Baltimore. If anyone has any
leads on these folks, I would appreciate a contact. Thanks! Mona
