"Yesterday morning early John M. Davis, one of the early residents of Parsons, passed
away. He came to this country thirty years ago and located at the above named place.
After the death of his wife, which occurred shortly afterward, he made his home with his
daughter-in-law, Mrs. W.J. Thomas, with whom he resided until the time of his death. Born
in Carmarthenshire, January 12, 1813, being 88 years of age, he was a devout Christian and
an earnest member of the First Welsh Baptist Church, respected by the young and the old of
the community. His grandchildren, Mrs. W.G. Daniels of Scranton, Miss Minnie and Charles
Davis of Parsons, were with him during his last moments. The funeral will take place on
Thursday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m., from the house of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thomas;
services at the church at 2 p.m. and interment in Hollenback Cemetery."
