From the Wilkes-Barre Record, 23 Jan 1901, Page 6.
"The case was a sad one indeed. The deceased was a native of Blaena Hestiniog, North
Wales. He arrived in this country in March 1900. After working for a short time at
Danielsville, near Slatington, he came to Miner's Mills and secured work with
contractor Lewis Bevan. He saved all he could to support his wife and child in Wales,
whom he was anxious to have with him, but being out of employment during the recent
strike, and also through the condition of Laurel Run mine, he died penniless, leaving his
wife and one child in Wales unprovided for.
"Deceased was 35 years of age, a fine man, steady and industrious, one who made many
friends in so short a time. It is the desire of the friends to give the remains as
respectful a burial as possible and if these lines come under the eye of any who have the
means and the inclination to give, the contributions will be thankfully received and
acknowledged by Rev. Theophilus Davies or Lewis Bevan, Miner's Mills."
