Evan was a Master Mariner who seemingly sailed around the world.
Because
of this, his children went to his brother's home in Liverpool. But,
when
the Liverpool Sheltering Homes opened in 1873, the 5 youngest children
were
sent to live there. In 1874 and 1875 they were "shipped to Canada."
The
oldest son went to Canada separately in 1873.
In 1876, Evan CORKILL remarried to Elizabeth UPTON who was born ~1837, and
she was "of St. Asaph, Wales." They lived in Liverpool, I believe.
However, an 1881 census report had them living in Cheshire, England. I
believe Evan died in 1889. I don't know when this 2nd wife died.
I'm curious if anyone knows anything about this Elizabeth. I don't know
if she was a Miss Elizabeth UPTON, or a Mrs. UPTON.
The simplest way to find out is to order the marriage certificate. Search on

If she was aged about 39 at marriage I would suspect she was a widow.
You may not have seen the message on the Rootsweb Mariners list to see that
details of master mariners are coming online piece by piece at
http://www.history.ac.uk/gh/capintro.htm You may find his ships there, if
he did in fact hold a master's ticket. However the nearest I can see is a
John CORKHILL b 1821 Isle of Man. so it is possible that your Evan was an
ordinary mariner, not a ship's master.
