"A PROMINENT WELSHMAN BURIED
"William M. Evans, who was buried yesterday, was born at Llanelly,
Cannasthershire, South Wales, in the year 1814. He emigrated to America
in 1853, and located at Lain's Creek, Lycoming County. He came to this
valley thirty-five years ago, and located at Pittston. He was there
employed as inside foreman for David Morgan for a number of years, and
then by Daniel Edwards, the present superintendent of the Kingston Coal
Co., at Pittston. He then held a position as foreman to W.G. Payne at
the East Boston mine at Luzerne Borough for four years. He then removed
to Edwardsville and resumed his occupation as a miner until he became 72
years of age. He then abandoned the mines and started a little business
of his own, and kept it until the time of his death, which occurred June
17. He is survived by his wife, son William, Mrs. Evan Thomas of
Edwardsville and Mrs. George Woods of Kentucky. The funeral took place
yesterday at 2 p.m. Rev. T.E. Richards, of the Immanuel Baptist Church,
officiated. The pall bearers were William S. Nillen, Uriah Davis, John
James, Jacob Watkins, Robert Roberts and Dan S. Davis."
