"DEATH OF COAL OPERATOR JONES
"Edward Jones, a prominent resident of Olyphant, died on Sunday evening,
after an illness of five days, aged 78 years. He was the senior member
of the coal firm of Jones, Simpson & Co. He was a native of South
Wales, but has been a resident of Lackawanna County since 1837. He was
for many years a superintendent for the Delaware & Hudson Co.,
afterwards entering the mining business for himself. He was president
of the Merchants' and Mechanics' Bank, Scranton, and was prominently
identified with many public interests in and about the city. He leaves
a wife, three sons and four daughters. One of the sons is John B.
Jones, the well known Scranton attorney.
"The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services
will be held at the residence on Main street, Blakely, after which
interment will take place at Dunmore Cemetery."
