"Edward LEWIS of Scranton was instantly killed on Wednesday while at work in the
Diamond mine. He was endeavoring to dislodge a piece of top coal when the mass came down
upon him. A wife and one daughter, a year old, survive him. The unfortunate man was out
on a hunting trip the day previous, and intended to continue the sport again, but the
heavy fall of snow prompted him to change his plans and go to work. Mr. Lewis was the son
of Thomas D. Lewis, and was well known. He was born in Monmouthshire, South Wales,
thirty-four years ago. The funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2
o'clock."
