"On Sunday Pittston lost a well known resident in the death of Elizabeth, the
estimable wife of William R. Williams of Lagrange street, Welsh Hill. Death was due to a
complication of diseases. She was aged 62 years, 3 months and 13 days.
"Mrs. Williams was born in Rhymney, Monmouthshire, South Wales, and was the daughter
of David and Mary Griffith of that place. In 1862 she became the wife of Mr. Williams at
Aberdare and they came to America in the same year. They at once took up their residence
in Pittston and resided here since, with the exception of a few months. The fruits of
this marriage was the birth of seven children, four boys and three girls - David of Los
Angeles, Cal.; James of Kingston; Mrs. William Chiver and Mrs. William H. Monk of
Pittston; Gwilym of Buffalo; and Robert and Mrs. David W. Evans of Pittston. All these
and her husband survive, as well as one brother, David D. Griffith, the well known mine
foreman at Minooka.
"She was a kind mother, an affectionate wife and an exemplary Christian. She was a
most valued member of the Welsh Baptist Church, of which she had been a member over forty
years, having made a profession of Christ when but 18 years old, at Gwawr, Aberaman.
"The funeral will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with services in the Welsh Baptist
Church. Interment in Odd Fellows' Cemetery."
