Hello Karen, I have looked at the LDS
1881 census database
www.familysearch.org/
which as you probably know has the 1881 British census online.
and there is a a 9 yr old Elizabeth E Best (the nearest age I
could find in Somerset) at
Norton Sub Hamdon which my altas says is near to Yeovil. .The
household is listed as
age where born occupation.
George Best 38 Tintinhull Somerset Carter (Ag)
Mary A 37 Chiselboro Glove
Buttoner
Elizabeth E 9 Norton Sub Hamdon
Clara 6 "
Caroline 4 "
George 1 "
Dwelling Higher St Norton Sub Hamdon Somerset.
Of course this might not be your Elizabeth but I hope this is of some
help.
Cheers Peter Bellamy.

Subject: [WALES-GEN] Best name in Cardiff
Hi there
I hope I have joined the right list, if not please tell me.
I have always been led to believe that my great grandmother, Elizabeth
Best,
was born in Cardiff. That was until I was able to access the 1901
census
and
find that on the entry she has given her place of birth as Yeovil in
Somerset, across the Bristol channel.
Elizabeth gives her age as 28 on the 1901 census making her born around
1873
As I said before the family story is that she came from Cardiff.
Would anyone be able to help me out with a census look up as I now have no
way forward from Sheffield as I do not have access to the Cardiff census
as
I cannot travel. If I can offer look ups back in Sheffield in a way
of
repayment then I will.
Basing my findings on the 1901 census, Elizabeth Best would have been 18
on
the 1891 census, and 8 on the 1881 census.
She could have at the time of the 1891 census be listed as Elizabeth
Hinchliffe, her married name. She was the wife of Tom Hinchliffe. Tom was
aged 44 on the 1901 census. Also possibly on a 1891 census entry there may
be a young daughter by the name of Winifred.
I hope someone can help me out here please, I know this is not a lot to
go
on but this is all I have.
