Hello all,
I'm back with my search for Thomas WATKINS. I posted previously about the
1841 census looking for Thomas.
I have since received the information about Thomas' Declaration of Intent in
the US. It reads as follows:
WATKINS (x) Thomas #372 Nat:
Int: 1 Apr 1850. Thomas was born in County Glamorgan, Wales, a subject of
G.B. & I., emigrated from Liverpool in Mar 1847 to New York City on 7 May
1847, age 32, resident of Greenville. 1-2
I haven't figured out what the x stands for or the 1-2 at the end of the
entry. If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.
Today I received info regarding his parents. There is a listing for Thomas,
buried in Adamsville Cemetery in West Virginia, that has his parents listed
as James WATKINS and Ann JAMES (could I get any more "common" names to
search? LOL). Anyway, my question is does anyone have any suggestions as to
how to narrow down where in Glamorgan he was born? I feel like I've pretty
much exhausted my resources here in the states. I'm not yet familiar w/ what
all census records are available for Glamorgan. I know there is 1841 and
1851. Are there any earlier census records available? Is anyone able to do a
search for James, Ann and Thomas together in Glamorgan before 1847? Maybe a
marriage record for James and Ann would help to narrow it down. Is there an
index for marriages in Glamorgan that I could search?
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Jenna
