"The death of Thomas W. Davis, a former resident of this place, occurred at his home
in Scranton on Saturday. He was born at Merthyr Tydvil, Glamorganshire, South Wales, in
1838. When at the age of 18 years he became superintendent of the Sunday school
department of the Tabernacle Church at Merthyr Tydvil, of which he was a devoted member.
Three years later he was chosen conductor of the Band of Hope of the same church, which
then comprised over 200 members. In the year 1867 he came to America, located in
Scranton, subsequently moving to Tamaqua, thence to Plymouth, returning to Scranton in
1880, since which time he has lived there."
