That takes you back to Lincolnshire for the father. Melingriffith was an
iron works on the Glamorganshire Canal about 8 miles south of Pontypridd.
Records of births would have been in Cardiff registration district and
parish of Whitchurch (or maybe Radyr or Eglwysilan if they lived a bit
further from the works.)
Google Melingriffith for a variety of sources, including I think modern
'heritage trail'.
'Rhiw' seems to have been the name of a village, long street or district,
judging by the number of households with that address in 1861.
To see this location on 1885 map go to old maps web site
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ and choose either gazetteer, Glamorgan, Graig
(second of that name) or 306500,189500 in the co-ordinates . SE of the
centre of Pontypridd on the road to Llantwit Fardre.
There has been at least one person on the Glamorgan list researching
BARNHOUSE name.

Thank you, Jeff, for the information. I did not know that Ponty
Pridd was
in Glamorgan. I can now search the Glamorgan list and message board.
I am so glad that you answered my plea. By asking about my sources, you
also caused me to take a second look and realize I had made a mistake. It
is possible that I should or should not be researching ANN HAWKINS on the
Wales list, but I definitely should be researching FRANCES ANN DOVE on
that
list.
Because there are three generations of Eliza's, I thought that when
great-aunt Eliza wrote down "our mother's family lived at Ponty Pridd,
Wales. Mother met my father in Ponty Pridd", she was referring to Ann
Hawkins. However, I picked the wrong person for Aunt Eliza's mother.
The person I am looking for who lived in Ponty Pridd would be FRANCES ANN
DOVE, daughter of Mason Dove and Ann Barnhouse. I would like to discover
more about that family because my son may be visitng Great Britain soon
and
my 11-year old grandson has become very interested in Wales through some
school studies. I know that Frances Ann was born August 6, 1860 in Ponty
Pridd, South Wales, and died August 6, 1920 in Harpursville, NY
(information
from an uncle.) She married Frank Lewis June 6, 1882 in Ponty Pridd.
