"Information was received in this city yesterday concerning the death of Thomas
Loucher, who, accompanied by James Davis and Thomas Jenkins, left this city last June for
Washington Territory. Mr. Loucher was a native of Llansamlet, Wales. He left there last
spring to fulfill a contract which he had undertaken in Carbonado, Washington Territory.
His partner, Mr. Jenkins, died last August [posted to Wales-Gen 18 Feb 2003]. Mr.
Loucher's death was caused by malarial fever, which is prevalent in Carbonado at
present, there being seventy-five cases in that small town. Attention was paid to him
during his last illness by friends and strangers. He leaves a wife and several children
in the old country. Mr. Rosser Bodycomb, of this city, is a nephew of the
deceased."
