Jeff,
Thank you for all of your help. The item I have on Robert HARRIS and I
assumed he died in the same town, Cardiff. But realize that Daniel and Kate
(Haskins) HARRIS have shown both Cardiff and Bristol in the family
genealogy. I think that Daniel and Robert must have been brothers, and
possibly Sarah was their mother based on age and dates. Know Daniel's father
was Charles HARRIS but nothing on his mother.
Evidently Sarah HARRIS and Nancy WELCH could have been mother and daughter
since they were buried in the same Redfield Burial Ground in Sarah's and
Nancy Welch shows Redfield Wesleyan Burial Ground on their burial cards; or
else she could have been Kate Haskins's sister. Know that Kate worked in
the FRY Candy factory before her marriage to Daniel in 1871.
This is a line I had never worked before their coming to the USA in about
1881.
Really appreciate your help on this. I was able some years ago to reach
full info on my Frye,Frey, Frei, Fry in 1846 Bavaria, so have hope on this
being in English!!
Thank you again for your pointers. I will continue searching.
Mary Widener

As far as I know there was never a Wesleyan burial ground in Cardiff,
in
fact by 1900s apart from Llandaff cathedral and a few parish churches in
outer suburbs all burials were in Cathays municipal cemetery.
However a Google search on Redfield Wesleyan Burial brings up
http://www.bafhs.org.uk/main5.shtml which shows that there was a Redfield
Wesleyan Burial ground in Bristol. Was the family from Bristol? Only an
hour or two on the train through the Severn tunnel.
Correspondence on the Bristol and Somerset Rootsweb list also shows up in
Feb 2005 about this, and it appears that Bethesda Wesleyan Chapel was
opened 1869 on Church Road and Lypiatts Lane,Redfield, Bristol. However
examination of aerial photos of the area do not show something looking
like a cemetery right next to it.
There is a large cemetery in the Redfield area of Bristol now shown on
maps as Avon View Cemetery.
Grid Ref ST620732

Lon:

Avonview Cemetery
Beaufort Road
St George
Bristol
BS5 8EN
is now administered by Bristol City Council with email
brplcems(a)bristol-city.gov.uk
It may well be that there was a Wesleyan area in that cemetery, or it may
have existed nearby and the cemetery office would know of it. It was
common to have areas in municipal cemeteries set aside for specific
religious denominations and groups.
By the way if you search for the civil registration of these deaths,on
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl Robert Harris died in Cardiff,
but Sarah Harris in Bristol
