"The death of Mrs. Mary E. Evans, widow of the late John Evans, occurred yesterday
afternoon at 2:30 at her home, 84 Lincoln street. Death was due to heart disease and
dropsy, from which she had been a patient sufferer for many months. For the past eight
months the deceased had been unable to leave her chair and although she knew that death
was near she was uncomplaining, buoyed up with that Christian fortitude that looks on the
severance of mortal ties as the entrance into a happier, peaceful life. She was devout in
her Christian duties and was devoted to her family, to whom her death is a severe blow.
"Mrs. Evans was born in Neath, South Wales, but spent most of her life in this
country. She is survived by the following children: L.L. Evans of New York City; J.R.
Evans of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. R. Kenworthy, Mrs. R.C. John of this city, H.E. Evans of
Behee & Evans, Miss Florence K. and G.L. Evans, bookkeeper at the Record
office."
