"The funeral of Mrs. John Jewell was held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from
her late home on Chestnut street and was largely attended, friends and relatives being
present from Pittston, Scranton and Olyphant. Rev. Dr. T.C. Edwards conducted the
services. The deceased was a most estimable young woman and her death was an unusually
sad one, as she had only been married for a few months. She came to this country last
August from Aberdare, Wales and was married in New York City soon after she landed. She
is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Watkins, who reside in Aberdare, Wales;
also four brothers and two sisters - William G. of Edwardsville, Evan of Bristol, England;
Matthew, David, Mrs. Rachel Jenkins and Miss May, all of Aberdare. There were many
beautiful floral tributes, including bouquets from Mrs. and Mrs. Richard Powell, Mr. and
Mrs. John Perry, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Carr, Mr. and Mrs. John Heidrich, Miss Minnie
Daly, Mrs. George F. Taylor, Misses May and Fanny Clark, Mrs. Willard Hubbard Goodwin,
Miss Annie Belford, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Thomas. The pall bearers were Lewis Davis, Matthew
Davis, John Davis, Gwilliam Davis, Isaac Davis and Richard Powell of Taylorville.
Interment was made in Forty Fort Cemetery."
