Have been looking for an area of birth (1873) recorded as Towen,
Wales - to date I have not been able to locate even a sound alike.
Could be the spelling is incorrect. Can anyone help me with its
location?
Thank you,
There are a large number of places which have the element "tywyn" in them
(meaning a strand of sea shore). The two most likely are Towyn near Abergele
in Denbighshire and Tywyn in south Merionethshire.
Was your ancestor still in Wales in 1881? If so a look at the census may
enable you to determine which Tywyn is correct. Does your Towen ancestor have
family members born in different places? If siblings or parents were born in
Kinmel, Rhyl or Colwyn it would suggest that the Abergele Towyn is the
birthplace, but close relations born in Aberdyfi, Celynin, etc., would
suggest the south Merionethshire one.
all the best
Alwyn
