Your message about Powell has only been there for three days.
You told us that Sarah SUMMERS (nee POWELL) was born in 'Laneyatha'
Monmouthshire. This is based on 1871 census ( Ancestry interpretation of
what was written) when she and husband Henry were in Cheltenham. In 1861 she
is recorded as being born in Monmouth,Monmouthshire, if I recall.
Having failed to find anywhere in Monmouthshire with a name closely
resembling 'Laneyatha' - though there are a number of places starting with
Llan I decided that it would serve little purpose to say there was no
obvious place that matched the census entry.
Have you found Sarah POWELL ( who would have been Sarah SUMMERS by then) in
1851 census? If so, where was she and what did it say about where she was
born?
Is she the one shown as born in Monmouth (transcribed by Ancestry as
Worcestershire) about 1810? Looks like it. In Cheltenham, wife of Henry, a
baker. Also in Cheltenham in 1841, not born in county.
You can easily see which lists are active and which are very quiet by going
to the old-fashioned way into mailing lists on Rootsweb -
http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/index.html then International then
Wales
http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/WLS/ and then look at
each relevant list and 'Browse' where it shows you the number of messages in
each month. Monmouthshire had 68 messages in Feb 2011, Wales-GEN had none.
GENUKI Monmouthshire
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/ is a good place
to start looking at placenames.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Where/index.html#L shows you a
selection of places.
The Monmouthshire list may well give you some suggestions.
Gwent Family History Society covers the county of Monmouthshire.

Gwent Archives ( previously Gwent Record Office) is the local repository of
official records such as parish registers.
http://www.torfaen.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/GwentRecordsOffice/Publicati...
is a list of parish registers that they hold.
http://www.torfaen.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/GwentRecordsOffice/RecordsHe...

Hope this helps
