Good morning Listers,
I am new to the List and I am hoping that someone maybe able to help me regarding the
Beaver and Hughes families. A family group is working on the Christie and Harrison family
and one of the Harrisons, James Harrison (born 1791) married Ellen Beaver on 3rd Sept,
1812 in Llandbeblig, Caernarvonshire in Wales.
James was the son of the Rev. Ralph and Ann Harrison (nee Touchet), James was born in
Manchester, Lancashire. As mentioned, it is the Beaver and Hughes families, which now
interest us and I will set out what we have so far.
Ellen Beaver's parents were Robert and Margaret Beaver (nee Hughes). Robert Beaver
born was born circa 1748 at Aberfraw and was the son of John Beaver a schoolmaster.
Robert Beaver was a Privateer and after his many exploits at sea, he settled down with his
wife Margaret, on her property at Maes Llwyn. Robert was honoured as a hero of the sea
and took up the job of light keeper of Point Lynoas. The family later sold Maes Llwyn to
John Paynter, who demolished and rebuilt the house when he became a ship builder at
Amlwch.
Margaret Beaver (nee Hughes) was the daughter of one Hugh Rowland Hughes. This gentleman
had 23 children, and had been married four times and died at the age of 114 years. At his
funeral in Amlwch church 84 of his descendants attended.
The family would dearly love to know more about the Beavers and the Hughes families and if
anyone can shed any light upon them, we would be most grateful. Especially, the names of
Hugh Rowland Hughes's wives and anything about the children.
We do know that two of Margaret's brother's names were Hugh and Robert. Any
information regarding the Beavers and the brothers and sisters of Ellen Harrison (nee
Beaver) would be wonderful.
Kind regards,
Janice
