I'm a newbie here, and having great difficulty identifying the emigration location
of my gggrandfather Patrick Bannon, and hoping someone on this list can be of
assistance.
I have family record my Patrick Bannon, born 1814 Thurles, CO Tipperary Ireland
emigrated to Wales in 1827 (likely industrial south Wales), and then emigrated to
the US in 1834 or 1836. He settled in Pennsylvania, US, but I do not know his port
of entry, or exact date of entry.
I have no idea what ports he would have shipped from or to, from Ireland or from
Wales to the US. I'm currently unable to locate him on passenger lists entering the
US.
His passage could have been paid or worked, I do not know.
What source of information would be available for emigrating with the UK at that
time? I am unfamiliar with any regulations that would have existed within the UK
during those years, do not know requriements for traveling from one 'colony' to
the
other, if Ireland and Wales would be considered colonies. Would documentation be
required to travel by boat from Ireland to Wales, or to England?
What would be the likely port of entry from Ireland to Wales, and then the likely
port of departure from Wales? What records were required to emigrate from the UK?
Is it likely he would have needed to return to Ireland to ship out, or ship from
Wales, or from somewhere in England, if so most likely port?
I have looked at various websites to know avail.
ANY assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Sharon, Colorado, US
