Hello Listers,
Please could some kind soul do a look up "anywhere" in Wales for the
following:
* birth entries for children of John and Jane TILEY SILK
*entries in census for a family of SILK including parents John (b. 29th Oct
1824) and Jane with a "son" Frederick (b. 4 March 1849)
*entries in census post 1851 for William and Sophia CLIFFORD (b around about
1800ish)
I am currently in search of some of my missing rellies!! Sophia SILK married
William CLIFFORD in 1843 at Calne, Wiltshire.... so why look in Wales you
ask?? Well, one of Sophia's sons, John TILEY SILK married a Jane (surname
unknown). They went from Plymouth to Australia in the company of Sophia's
other sons, James and Edward. James' wife died on board ship after giving
birth to a son, Frederick. Now then, Frederick SILK died in Victoria,
Australia and it is stated that he was "an Englishman who often spoke of
Wales"... in some inquest documents that I received. I beleive that
Frederick was brought up by his Uncle and Aunt, John and Jane TILEY SILK.
They had arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1849 and there are no birth
entries for children of John and his wife here in Victoria so I am guessing
that they returned to the Mother Country... John TILEY SILK did return to
Victoria as I have a copy of his death certificate...(unfortunately not much
info... "unknown", "unknown", "unknown"... for wife?,
family? etc etc...!!).
I am guessing that John and Jane didn't stay too long in Victoria... perhaps
leaving for England again in the early 1850's. In the meantime, Sophia and
William CLIFFORD dissappeared from Wiltshire in the early 1850's... so since
Frederick used to "speak of Wales".. maybe (drawing a long bow, I know),
just maybe that's where all of them headed???
With thanks and blessings to all
