Hello Bob,
There is a parish of Cilcennin in the Enumeration District of Aberaeron and
Sub-district Llansantffraid in Cardiganshire. Aberaeron is on the west
coast and Cilcennin about four or five miles south east. Aberystwyth is
also in Cardiganshire and is north of Aberaeron. It makes sense that the
families sailed from Aberystwyth to Liverpool as they are both on the west
coast of Britain and the latter was a large port which was the departure
point of many who left this country to start a new life.
There were 505 inhabitants of Cilcennin in 1881 so it is only a small place
and only 105 were Jones.
There is a Rootsweb mailing list for Dyfed which includes Cardiganshire
which is very active and also one for Cardiganshire. I think you may get
more help from these lists than this one which covers the whole of Wales.
Good luck with your research
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

I'm not even going to ask about John. There's too darned many
John
Jones!!
I'm just beginning to make a stab at finding my wife's Jones ancestors,
and I am really lost after I leave Ohio. According to a newspaper
article written in 1921 by a Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, judge my wife's
Joneses were born
[quote] ..in the parish Cilcinin, Carnigershire, South Wales. [unquote]
Can anyone give me clue as to the whereabouts of this parish or was the
honorable jurist blowing smoke - or smoking something at the time he
wrote the article?
I'm adding the following on the remote possibility that someone might
recognize these names:
In the latter part of May 1838 John and Elizabeth and their children
[quote] along with four other families sailed from Aberystwyrh for
Liverpool and then from Liverpool for America in the ship Oceola.
[unquote]
John Jones had a brother Daniel b. abt 1807 married Sarah Davis. The
Davises were among those who sailed together for America.
These folks settled in Gallia County Ohio.
If I can just figure out where they came from, I might know where to
start looking for them.
Any help, please.
