The web site which gives IGI batch numbers has very few that cover Wales. I
thought that the system that I use to discover the ones that I want may be of
interest to other listers.
Step 1. Put JONES in the search for ancestors frame and nothing else
Step 2. When you get to the JONES list click IGI British Isles in the box on
the left of the screen
Step 3. When the GB JONESes turn up click refine search
Step 4. Enter John JONES, British Isles, Wales and your County of Interest
(say Merionethshire)
This will give you a list of all John JONESes in Merionethshire (or wherever)
Step 5. Look for ones in the parish that interests you (say Dolgellau) and
click on the name - this will give you details of the particular individual
including the batch number for the register from which he is taken. Giving
you one of the batch numbers for Dolgellau which can then be used for the
name that you are actually searching.
As there should be a John Jones in every single register (and therefore
batch), this method should be infallible!
Hope this explanation is clear and I hope it helps.

Alwyn
