"On Saturday morning William P. Jones of 65 Custer street died after an illness of
one week of bronchitis, aged 53 years. He was highly respected in this city and was a man
of genial temperament well liked by all who knew him. He was one of the oldest miners in
the employ of the L. & W.-B. Coal Company, having worked for the company since 1870.
"Deceased was a native of Merthyr Tydvil, Wales, and emigrated to the United States
form Aberdare, Wales, in 1868. He first settled in Scranton but removed to Wilkes-Barre
in 1870. He leaves his wife and four daughters: Mrs. George Cook, Mrs. John A. Beck and
Misses Eunice and Annie, at home. He is also survived by his brother, Peter P. Jones, of
the Heights. He was an attendant of the Welsh Congregational Church. In politics he was
a Republican and always took an interest in the affairs of the party. The funeral will be
held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence. Scranton papers please
