"Sorrow was manifested on the Heights yesterday morning when it became known that
James W. Jones, 92 New street, had died at the City Hospital from appendicitis. Last June
he had his leg amputated on account of blood poisoning. He recovered and was getting
along nicely until he was attached with appendicitis. He leaves a wife and nine
children.
"Deceased was 42 years of age and was a native of Pont-y-Berem, Carmarthenshire,
Wales, but prior to coming to Wilkes-Barre, twenty-one years ago, he lived for several
years at Pentre Ystrad, Rhondda Valley. He was a man of sterling character and was a
deacon of the Welsh Baptist Church of the Heights, where he was active in church and
Sunday school work. He was also a member of Prospect Rock Lodge, 490, K. of P. and a
member of the Young Cambrian Society and was one of the active members who arranged for
the two mammoth eisteddfods that were held under the auspices of that society. He leaves
his large family totally unprovided for other than what will be received from the lodges
he belonged to.
"The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The remains will be
taken to the Welsh Baptist Church, were services will be conducted by Rev. Jacob E. Davis
of Plymouth. Interment will be in Hollenback Cemetery."
