I am still researching or my great grand uncle and aunt, Henry GOLDBY and
Sarah Jane PAYNE. Henry GOLDBY, the son of William and Charlotte GOLDBY was
born c 1859 in Harlestone, NTH, ENG. Sarah Jane PAYNE, the daughter of James
PAYNE and Harriet BEEBY, was born c 1867 Great Addington, NTH, ENG. Henry
was an Engine Fitter at Harlestone, NTH, ENG in 1881 and a "Railway Engineer
-Fitter" at Llanwrthwl, Brecknockshire, WALES in 1901. Henry and Sarah Jane
were married Great Addington, NTH, ENG in 1890.
Their known children were William J born Romaldkirk, YKS, ENG 22 August 1891
and Herbert A Llanwrthwl, Brecknockshire, WALES 1896. The family was living
in Elan Village, Llanwrthwl, Brecknockshire, WALES and Benjamin b c1863, the
brother of Henry, was also living with them. Another one of Henry's
brothers, Herbert born c 1868, was probably also living in the same town but
their father was still in Harlestone.
The family probably stayed on in Wales after the competition of the Elan
project early in the 1900s. Eliza Ann (Cissie) PAYNE b 1909 d/o William
PAYNE and Catherine CALLAGHAN spent much of her early life with her aunt
Sarah Jane (nee PAYNE) after her father died in 1913. Cissie, who was
described as a 32 year old spinster of Glanwye, Newbridge-on-Wye, married
Herbert Octavius CORNER a 34 year old bachelor of 42 Isghorn Road, Harlsden,
Willlesden, Middlesex, a fitter, s/o of Christopher CORNER on 31st May 1941
in All Saints Church, Newbridge-on-Wye, County of Radnor, Wales. The two
witnesses were W J GOLDBY and H A GOLDBY who probably were still living in
the area
(Unfortunately the marriage was of short duration as Cissie died at
Willesden, Middlesex in 1944)
Are there any GOLDBYS (or their descendants) still living in this area?
