Hi,
Is there anyone out there who has a connection or has any knowledge of the Lewis family
(or descendants) who were living at Pantiauau Farm, Llansawel, Carms in 1841 ???
Similarly, has anyone knowledge of the Lewis family (not connected) who were living at
Gwalia, a smallholding near Cemmaes, Monts., for about 40 years from circa 1850 ?? Much
info' to share.
John.

Do not have any information on your Lewis' sorry to say, but I do have a
question to ask you..you say they were mariners..it is reported that my 5 x
great grandfather served in a Navy or on ship..he was Welsh..but we have no idea
what kind of situation he would have been in to be on a ship from
Wales...several of his children ended up as miners in Merthyr Tydfil, but we can't
really find out where he might have been while on ship..they were from central
Wales so are puzzled. Where were your ancestors mariners? What records could
you find for them?
Thanks very much,
Kathy

John,
My wife's son-in-law is a Lewis. He is the 2 x great grandson of Howell Elvet (Elfed)
Lewis, a well-known bishop/pastor in the Presbyterian/Congregational Churuch. Elfed wrote
many hymns in the Welsh tongue. I am not sure where he was born or if there is any
connection to you Lewis family.

My Lewis (Elenora) immigrated to the Racine Wisconsin area about 1880 (right
after the census naturally)
There was a Lewis family that lived a couple of houses away from my
gggrandfather John Holden and his family in the 1880 census, but can't find a way to
see if this is where Elenor was sent to live. And can't find any
descendents. Her brother, Richard, was a mariner and worked for the New York and Porto
Rico line. He traveled from New orleans and New York to Puerto Rico and
possibly back to Great Britain. Don't find Elenore in any ships passenger lists,
so assuming she hopped a ride back to Wales with one of her brothers. Edward
was also a sea capt. Relatives say she visited Wales often. Since her
hubby, John Holden was a farmer and a machinist, I don't think cruises were in
the budget.
