My Welsh interest, is regarding my maternal Gmother, Annie Maria
WILLIAMS.According to her marriage cert,on 7th July, 1890, she was born
1871, her father was William WILLIAMS (deceased), who had been a
coal-miner. From this I think I found the family on the 1881 census, at
Queen St., Spennymoor, with her birthplace given as Mould(sic), which I
read as Mold, Flintshire. Can SKS tell me where to apply for her birth
cert, and those of her parents, William, born 1812, Bisla/Birla, and her
mother, Jane, born 1836, at Denby(sic)/Denbigh?
There were Coal mines in the area around Mold in Fflintshire, so that is a
good bet for Mould. I would suggest Bala (Merionethshire) for Bisla/Birla,
and obviously Denbigh, Denbighshire for Denby.
For a birth certificate for one born in Mold try the Register Office, Park
Lane, Holywell
CH8 7UR. Tel: 01352 711813.
Unfortunately both parents were born before the days of civic registration,
you may be able to find baptismal records for these two in the Parish Records
for Denbigh and Bala, but as far as I know these have not been transcribed
for the periods you require. If you have an LDS centre near by you may be
able to get copies of the Bishop's Transcripts of the time from them.
However, before attempting to find anything for people with names as common
as William Williams and Mrs Jane Williams you would need to find a marriage
certificate for the parents and earlier census records in order to make sure
that you have the right William and Jane out of the hundreds of
possibilities.
The biggest difficulty that you have with your Annie Maria is that she was
born, probably, just after the 1871 census, and was married before the 1891
census, so the only census in which she will appear with her family group is
1881. Did she, perchance, have any older siblings who might be found with her
parents in 1871?
All the best
