Thank you for responding and for the information.
I believe I've seen at least 2 references to Evan CORKILL being a Master
Mariner, but I do not have the sources. The reference which comes to
mind is that, in 1873, when his 5 children were going to the Liverpool
Sheltering Homes, he was on a ship heading to Africa.
I'm told that many / most men on the Isle of Man were either mariners or
fishermen, etc. Evan had an older brother, John CORKILL, but he was born
in 1825/26. I think he started out as a mariner but stopped when he
married.
I'll go investigate the web site you mentioned. I had gone to FreeBMD
and found several references, but there seems to have been several
Elizabeth UPTON's.
