Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I am looking for my partners ancestor,
Edward COLTMAN (sometimes written as Colman/Coleman) who was born (according
to the 1851,61,71 census) in Newport c.1811.
I am struggling to find out about him, as he moved around a lot. As far as I
can see (from censuses), he lived in:
1811 Born in Newport, Monmouthshire
1835 Denton, Lancs
1841 Lancashire, Wardleworth
1842 Lancashire Rochdale
1844 Hanover, Germany
1848 Leighton, Bedfordshire
1851 Grantham, Lincs (bricklayer)
1855 Grantham, Lincs
1861 Doddington, Lincs (farmer of 376 acres employing 8 men 4 boys)
1871 Doddington, Lincs (farmer of 374 acres employing 10 labourers 3 boys)
He was a brickmaker and appears to have moved around a lot for work. He
married Rebecca Parrott, who is the mother of his first 3 (that I know of)
children. She died around 1844 and he was married by 1848 to Sarah
Wakefield. I can't find either of these marriages or Rebecca's death. I am
hoping that someone might be able to find his baptism. which might be in
Newport, Wales. He may have had a brother called Richard as there is a
Richard (also a brickmaker) living near him in 1841, who subsequently
vanishes off the face of the earth.
Thanks
Vicki
