Good Morning!
Having searched Birth, Death, Census, Cemetery, Naturalizations records,
etc for 25 years, I'm still at a loss in attempting to locate where in
County Cork Ireland my MCCARTHY ancestors originated. But then again,
with Irish research, what else is new!
My gggrandparents, Denis and Mary Brown McCarthy were born in Cork. In
the mid 1850's they migrated to Wales where my ggrandfather Thomas was
born, as were brothers Patrick and John. They immigrated to
Pennsylvania, USA in 1860.What I'm attempting to ascertain is a
migration pattern for Irish who went to Wales in the 1850's. If they
migrated as a group, and settled in a place as a group, what were the
places that had a high concentration of Irish? In this way, I hope to
limit areas to search.
Also, in the 1900 USA Federal Census, widow Mary McCarthy was living
with her son Patrick. The Census states that she was the mother of 8
children, 1 living. I can account for 4 of those children, and surmise
that some of those "missing" may also have been born in Wales and died
there. Hopefully, there will be records of those events.
If anyone can help me by pointing out locations where Irish may have
immigrated to Wales, I would be most greatful.
Thank you!
Bob McCarthy
Hi Bob
We have just been looking a getting a week or so away in Ireland. We looked
at where the ferry goes from and see that the route is Pembroke (Wales) to
Rosslare (Ireland)
Does that help?
