Dear Nancy Cook,
Your continual series providing obituaries of Welsh immigrants to
Pennsylvania is one of the very best resources I know on Welsh 19th
Century immigrants, and is so useful to many of us with this interest.
Thank you for your continual effort in providing this.
I hope you will consider publishing all your obituaries in one volume
either in printed form or on the internet.
With high regard,
T. H. Roderick
I too am interested in any ROBERTS from Wales. I have been unable to trace my Antoine J. C. Roberts born abt 1820 (as the story goes) aboard a ship to Canada. His mother died during the trip and his father gave him to another family (by the name of Scriver) to raise. Does Wales have a naming pattern such as Ireland or Scotland? Does the name Antoine sound familiar to anyone? I think Antoine's mother came from France and maybe that is where the Antoine came from. But his father's family came from Wales. I have been working on the ship or ancestry for five years. I have many cousins but not where his family came from in Wales. We will be visiting Wales in May and would like to see where his family is from. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

From Wilkes Barre Record, Tuesday, 11 Nov 1890, Page 8
The Rhedegydd, published in Ffestiniog, North Wales, states that John
Roberts of Blaeman has received the sad intelligence of the death of his
daughter, Mary Catherine Kemp, wife of David Kemp, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.,
leaving an infant son and husband to mourn her sudden demise. Her death was
caused by childbirth. The funeral was largely attended and Rev. Hugh Davis
officiated, who one year before united them in marriage. The baby was
christened on its mothers coffin and was named after her. David Kemp
resides at the Empire, and although a young man, has had the misfortune to
lose his second wife, leaving two infant children motherless.

Hello,
I have the book, "The Family of Bray Wilkins," on loan from my local
library, and I'd like to offer a couple of paragraphs from Page 1 and 2 of
the book:
"The ancestry of Bray Wilkins in Wales has not been established. The
authors of several historical works on old Salem, as well as the histories
of several New England towns where members of the family settled, make
significantly similar references to Bray Wilkins as being a descendant of
'Lord Wilkins' of Wales who was a connection of Bishop Wilkins, who married
a sister of the Protector, Oliver Cromwell. It is also alleged that he
came from Brecknock county, in Wales. Bray is definitely described as a
'great grandson of Lord Wilkins,' Bishop of Chester. It seems to have
been overlooked that Lord Wilkins was born in 1614, four years after Bray.
There were many Wilkins families in Wales and there is much information
about the family, running far back into English history, and it is quite
likely Bray Wilkins had his antecedents in one or another of those families,
but after diligent and thorough inquiry by English and Welsh authorities,
conducted in the interests of genealogy, it must be admitted no definite
trace has been found as to Bray Wilkins' presence in Wales or of any who
might be his immediate ancestors."
Bray WILKINS, considered patriarch of most WILKINS families in New England,
lived in Salem and Middleton, MA, USA, in 1600's. This book was published
in 1943 by William Carroll Hill of the NEHGS.
....
Note: I am trying to determine if William WILKINS of "Maine" in the
1770-1800 time period was one of his descendants. In turn, I am trying to
find out if William had a son, Samuel WILKINS, who was my ancestor.
Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)
FYI: I am also trying to find out if a William LEWIS was originally from
Wales in the late 1700's. He moved from Shropshire, England, to
Liverpool, somewhere around 1800. (I do not have easy access to my notes
right now, so I cannot offer specific dates this morning.)
I am seeking anything on Thomas Wiggin b. 1592. He had a first unknown
marriage; second marriage well documented in 1633 in London. His life from
birth to 1627 is totally shrouded in mystery and yet after age 40 he is so
well documented we knew when he hiccuped! I think one of the reasons we
know nothing of his first forty years of life is because we have been
looking in the wrong place/country.
He had strong ties with the Merchant Venturers of Bristol and I have had
wonderful help in Bristol trying to find him to no avail, so far. Because
of the close proximity to Bristol, Wales seems to be the next step in this
quest.
Thomas was called "Captain" and he had a patron in Sir John Drake who wrote
a letter on his behalf in 1627 (our first documentation of Thomas) saying
"...Capt Thomas Wiggin desires a letter of marque against the French...".
With that document the trail ends. We don't know if he got that letter of
marque or not.
1629/30 finds him in Colonial Maine (New England) at which point he's well
documented until his death.
Any suggestions or help in finding this elusive ancestor is appreciated. I
have vowed to live long enough to kiss the soil he was born on!!

Hope this makes the list as it keeps bouncing.
I am new to the list and looking for a Lewis Lewis born in South Wales =
pre
1848.
Parents unknown, but I thought as I dont have much on this man, the =
unusual

He married a Margaret Davis and had a son called William born around =
1848
again in South Wales.
I dont know how big South Wales is but hopefully someone may be able to =
help
me solve this puzzle.
The family moved to Australia after William was born?

Louise - Try Ystradgynlais - there was a Lewis Lewis there who regularly
signed the marriage register - but, like all our names, it was very common.

Hi,
Am looking for the birth of a boy about 1945 somewhere in Wales. Father was Frederick FULLER and he was an English soldier on 'detachment?" in Wales. Frederick is my uncle, but he passed away in 1990. Please bear with me for lack of names etc. as I don't want to give too much away, unless I hear from the right party.
Frederick was married and had a family in England, at the time he had 2 kids one born 1941 and the other 1945. I guess he got lonely and careless. Anyway, the 1941 child has been looking for her half brother for years. I do family history and she asked me if I had come across him. I said no, hadn't looked, but would give it a go.
What may, or may not make this easier than 'other soldier parent searches' is that the girl claimed maintenance, and Joseph defaulted, and therefore there is paperwork somewhere around from where she took him to court. The 1941 child remembers that when she was a child her father received these summonses or whatever, guess it didn't go down too well in the household.
As it was a cross border thing, would I need to look in England as well as Wales?
Is there a Welsh PRO (similar to that at Kew) that might hold the court records/maintenance requests? If it were a hundred years earlier I would say the bastardry records.
Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how I might find something to give us a lead?
If the person born in Wales (now about 60) does not want contact, that is fine, I will pass the message on. But, I would appreciate proof that he is the person concerned e.g. by adding the names of his father that I have left out, and places in England. Names of the living need not even be exchanged, just consider me an intermediary.
His privacy will be honoured it that is his wish.
Thankyou for any help any one may be able to give me.
