Hello listers
I want to find two cousins and was wondering if you could give me the most popular newspapers for Wales.
I had success in a Staffordshire newspaper so thought I would try again.
Looking for cousins Malcolm Murray and sister Dymphia, children of James Murray Radio Officer, father born in Edinburgh, son of Thomas Murray and Mary Wilson Dow.

Hello list,
I am after some help please.
I have been trying for 20 years or so to find where my JONES family originated.
My great great grandfather was Humphrey JONES who married Margaret DAVIS (I think this was her surname). The first three of 10 children were born in the UK somewhere.
William about 1856, Sarah about 1858 and my great grandmother Mary Jane about 1861.
The family left for Australia aboard the Morning Star which departed England on 19 November 1862, arriving 15 February in South Australia. Humphrey's registration number of applicant was 3160. He went to work in Wallaroo which became a copper mining town in South Australia.
My questions to help me locate this familyin Wales or somewhere in UK is
1) Can I trace the family through the registration of application number when they departed for Australia
2) As they were in the UK in 1861 (a census year) how can I go abolut trying to locate them on the census.
Any help greatly appreciated,

Unfortunately there is no national index of the 1861 census available for
Wales, so to search the census for this family would prove to be a mammoth task.
Given that eldest children tended to be born fairly soon after marriage in
the 1850's your best bet might be to look for a marriage certificate for
Humphrey JONES and Margaret.
I have just looked at the FreeBMD site:
http://freebmd.org.uk/
but sadly the period 1855-1857 has yet to be transcribed by them. The
marriage registrations are filling up at a fair rate of knots on this site, however,
so after a 20 year search you may be willing to wait a few more months until
the information becomes freely available on this site. Alternatively you might
wish to try a certificate search company such as
http://www.aha.ndirect.co.uk/
who may be able to find a marriage cert for you, but, this option may prove
expensive.
Another aproach, which might prove time consuming, would be to find an LDS
library near you that has a copy of the GRO national indeces of Birth Marriages
and Deaths, look for every Humphrey Jones marrriage in the period 1855 to 1856
and then look to see if any birth records match the children in the right
time frame. Then order census films for the best matches.
The GRO index is available on-line, at a charge, from
http://www.1837online.com/
But such a wide ranging search for the common name Jones on this site might
also prove to be prohibitively expensive.
All the best

Hi List
My Grandmother MARY HEAD was born in PONTYPRIDD in 1887 and her mother on the birth certificate was MARY CLARE. I found a MARY CLARE on the 1891 Census of Pontypridd but she was only 12 !!
Could some one tell me if the LDS has filmed any of the Pontypridd churches as I cannot find any in their Library Catalogue.

Bernard from Yorkshire
Apologies upfront for the blatant advert, but we have not yet managed to
get our website updated to show this new venture and feel that local
family historians may not get to find out about it in time.
As we are an adjoining county, I am sure some of you may have research
in Shropshire you are contemplating starting/returning to so here goes:
During the spring and summer months of 2004, Shropshire Family History
Society will be offering you information and advice about researching
your family history, with the support of Shropshire Archives.
We will be in the Hobbs Room, at the entrance to Shrewsbury Library,
just up the road from the Archives.
Volunteer Society members look forward to sharing with you their
enthusiasm and their expertise.
What they can offer you
Help, Advice, Information, Contacts, Reference Material, Equipment,
Research Guides, Items Sale e.g. Booklets, Fiches, CDs, Maps & Books
and maybe even a cup of coffee.
The library is conveniently situated a short walk from the railway
station and a park-and-ride bus stop. These buses run frequently from
signposted car parks around the town, at Oxon, Meole Brace and
Harlescott. The nearest car park to the library is at Raven Meadows.
When we are there:
from March 8th to September 11th, 2004 every week as follows
Tuesday 10 – 1 [except 16th and 23rd March]
Thursday 2 – 5
Saturday 10 – 1 [except 24th April and 5th June (SFHS Open Day
at Shirehall)]

Good Morning from a bleak Chipping Sodbury
Here are the Proberts I know about.
There are living decedents which I have not included, though they are not Proberts.
Harriet Probert who married Oliver Neads, I knew as a boy, very austere dress in Black with weighted skirts and the usual hair bun.
Hope it all helps

Hi,
I have tried with no success to find my grandmothers immigration to Wales from Belgium. She was born in Belgium around 1897, but we assume she came out in particular to nurse in the war, though, thats only by word of mouth, it could be wrong.
Apparently she nursed my grandfather in the first world war, I think in Cardiff, but I cant be certain of that.
Does anybody know of any websites or point me in a general direction of how I can find out about immigration to Wales or maybe something on the nurses that looked after the wounded from the First World War.
Thanks,
Karen
I am seeking the origins of John TUNLEY, b.c1841, who married Clara MARTIN in Cardiff 1873 - they had two sons, Wilson Martin Tunley 1874 and Edgar John Tunley 1876-1891. Clara remarried in 1880 to John OWEN, a Railway Porter and had two further sons, Arthur Ernest Owen 1880 and Harry Owen 1881. I have not found John Tunley's death yet.
According to the marriage record, John Tunley was a Merchant's Clerk, the son of William Tunley, Gentleman.
Clara Martin was originally from Watchet, Somerset, b.1852, the daughter of Joseph and Hannah Martin.
I have access to the 1871 Wales census at Ancestry, but to date they have not covered Glamorgan.
Any help appreciated
