I have various items, including a family bible, belonging to the Gould family who lived in Tonypandy in the early 1900s. William Lewis GOULD and his wife Lizzie H. GOULD lived in Glenview. Their son William George GOULD died at Salonika in April, 1917 and I have some of his medals. Would love the bible and other items to go 'home' to descendants of the above family.

I wasn't sure which area to post this. So I thought that this was my best bet. Hope this will help someone out.

Hi everyone,
Over the last week or so, Carol and I have been swamped with bounced
messages
due to:
1. Mail boxes are FULL
2. Rootsweb mail being marked as spam by ISPs.
The ISPs which are causing the problems are:
breathemail.net and cgocable.net
Also there is a problem with Hotmail addresses. (See below)
BTinternet also seems to be generating bounces.
I have written to those affected subscribers AND the support addresses of
the relevent ISPs. Please contact your ISPs and ask them to stop refusing
Rootsweb mail. One subscribe address alone created more than 200 bounces
which is very time consuming.
Bounces.
The robot at Rootsweb is set to automatically unsubscribe after FOUR
bounces.
Hotmail.
There seems to have been problems with Hotmail for several weeks now,
off and on, and remember after 4 bounces you are removed from the list by
the robot. The way to deal with this is use the DIGEST version of the list
as this does not seem to be affected.
The Hotmail problem is widespread and Rootsweb are dealing with Hotmail
directly, trying to resolve the problem.
Many thanks

[Taken from Hazleton Sentinel, Monday 13 Aug 1900]
"Capt. Thomas J. Edwards, whose death was announced on Saturday, was the Republican candidate for State senator against the late Eckley B. Cox in 1880. He died in Shamokin on Friday morning.
"Deceased was born in Glamorganshire, Wales, in 1840, and when 15 years old landed in Upper Lehigh.
"In 1860 he made Miss Margaret Richards his bride and ere their first child was born had entered the service of his adopted country to fight against the Rebellion. Mr. Edwards made an admirable soldier and from entry into service, August 7, 1861, until honorably mustered out, August 14, 1864, he was noted for his patriotism and bravery, having distinguished himself in many hard fought battles.
"He returned from the army to his home in Upper Lehigh and became prominent in mine matters and was promoted to a mine foremanship in 1867, which he continued in until 1884 when himself and family settled in Mahanoy City. For several years he was proprietor of "The Old House at Home," which was one of the landmarks in that place.
"In politics and labor movements 'Tom' Edwards's counsel was always sought, and never did his intelligent mind and tongue advise wrongly.
"Six years ago he located in Shamokin, where he held a lucrative superintendency under the Union Coal Co., which ill health forced him to resign about one year ago.
"For over a year as kindly a frame as ever held a generous heart suffered much from a complication of diseases, chief among them being miners' asthma.
"During war time the deceased belonged to Co. A, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry, and since peace was restored to the country he has been a member of Severn Post, 110, G.A.R.; Royal Arcanum, the Masonic order, Odd Fellow and Golden Eagles."

HI, I just joined the list.
The 1881 census for Manchester, Lancs says that Hugh Owen, age 52,
came from Llanivycoon. Spelling, of course, may be in doubt. Can
anyone tell me where this is? Or what has a similar spelling, or
similar sound? I'd appreciate it.

Arthur Malet Thomas/Thomas Malet was a sailor/ships engineer, born in Jersey (and possibly a bigamist).
He allegedly died and was buried in Roath, Cardiff in Dec.1905 - just weeks after his daughter Winifred, aged 5, was also buried in Roath in Nov.1905. He is believed to have died from pneumonia.
Can anyone help me re-medical/cemetery records or point me in possible directions please ?

"Yesterday morning about 3 o'clock William B. Smith, a well known resident of Pittston, passed away at his home on South Main street. For over a year Mr. Smith had been affected with a lingering illness, which the doctors termed catarrhal consumption. For the past two weeks his condition had been critical and his death was therefore not unexpected. Mr. Smith was born in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, South Wales in August, 1841, and had he lived one month longer would have been 59 years of age. In 1868 he emigrated to this country, and after a year's residence in Scranton removed to this city, where he has since resided. For fourteen years he was employed as a traveling salesman for J.C. Hitchner and also for J.L. Morgan. The deceased leaves a wife and six children, as follows, all of whom are well known here: Charles, William, Olive, Edward, Eugene, Emily. Services will be conducted at the home on South Main street to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends desiring to view the remains can do so before service begins. Interment will be in Pittston Cemetery."

"Mrs. Hannah Thomas died at Parsons on Sunday morning at 6:45 o'clock. She was born at Llandebie, Carmarthenshire, Wales, in 1820. In 1842 she was married to Thomas Thomas who died in 1869 at Mountain Ash, Wales. To this union were born nine children; five of whom survive - William N. Thomas of Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. D.H. Smith of Parsons; Thomas R. Thomas of Pittston; Reese R. Thomas of Parsons; and John S. Thomas of Peckville. Mrs. Thomas is survived also by forty-three grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.
"Deceased came to America from Mountain Ash, Wales, in 1870 and settled in Parsons, where she has resided most of the time since. For over twenty years up to the time of her death she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. D.H. Smith. No mother was ever more devoted to her children and her religious life was humble and devout. Since her conversion in early life and her baptism by Rev. Benjamin Thomas of Sharon, Llandebie, she had been a faithful member of the Baptist Church. One of her greatest crosses was to miss a religious service.
"The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be held in the Baptist Church, the pastor, Rev. R. Williams, officiating, assisted by Rev. W.D. Thomas of Pittston."
