Hi Walter
Just a little intriguing question - how come you're asking this on the
Wales list? Heh heh, is there a dark skeleton secret in the family that led
you to suspect your ancestors came from the brooding, misty hills of
deepest Wales? This is all very interesting, as Bing Crosby and Bob Hope
sang "we certainly do get around."
Anyway, enough of this frivolity. I see that the LDS folk have not
microfilmed all that much of Tottenham, and your searching throughout
London would be fraught with problems, but have you attempted to put the
surname onto the "google" search engine, <www.google.com> and see what it
brings up? Have a go. I had great success with this recently.
Cheers

I cannot find out where this Abergethy was where my ggrandfather was born. I
have tried the Montgomery list and it was suggested Aberhafesp, but it sounds
a bit unlikely. I also asked Welsh speakers what sounded like Abergethy in
English to no avail. I wondered about Abergele but that is in Denbigh.
On his marriage cert Evan EVANS is listed as a miller with father Evan also a
miller. He was in Birmingham by 1877 but I cannot find him anywhere before
that.
Does anyone have any ideas where to go next???
I have 1881 and 1851 LDS cds if anyone requires a lookup.

"For thirty-three years the familiar face of Evan J. Thomas has been seen in this city, and in his unpretentious way he was one of the best citizens. Yesterday morning when the news of his death became known on the Heights there was general sorrow. He was a native of Cilycwm, a few miles from Congressman Williams's birthplace, and was a man of exemplary character. He was never married but resided with his brother-in-law, Evan S. Evans, on North Main street. By occupation he was a miner and worked the whole time for the L&W-B Coal Co. in the Empire, Hollenback and Stanton collieries. He had been a sufferer for several months from cancer of the stomach. He was 54 years of age and leaves five sisters and brothers in Wales; Mrs. Evan S. Evans of this city and Daniel Thomas of Scranton. Deceased was a member of the Welsh Presbyterian Church and of Lletty Ivor Lodge of True Ivorites. The funeral will take place on Thursday, Rev. John O. Jones officiating. Interment will be in Hollenback cemetery."

"On Saturday morning Rev. J.P. Harris, formerly pastor of the English Baptist Church at Nanticoke, passed peacefully away at his home in that place. For a long time his health had been failing, and it was for this reason that he resigned his pastorate some years ago. The reverend gentleman had been in the pastorate for fifty years and during that time preached for thirteen years at Nanticoke, for five at Providence, twelve years at Cataraugus, three years at Hyde Park, and fifteen years at Minersville.
"Rev. Mr. Harris graduated from the Waverfordwest College, South Wales, in 1844, and came to this country one year later. He was ordained to the ministry in Utica, NY, and became one of the leaders in Baptist teachings and principles, both in New York State and this State. He was born in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, South Wales, in 1820, leaving him 78 years of age.
"He leaves his wife and five children to survive him. They are: Mrs. Thomas O. Richards and Alfred Harris of Pueblo, Col.; J.J. Harris of Scranton; and Misses Libbie and Mary Harris of Nanticoke. Druggist J.P. Scureman of Nanticoke is a son-in-law. He was quite popular among the clergy and with the laity. He had been conspicuous in all the Baptist Church gatherings and passed away beloved by all who knew him.
"The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, with interment in the Nanticoke Cemetery."

He came to America in 1852 and to Hyde Park in 1861, where he worked for the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Co. in the mine department until recently, when failing health obliged him to secure outdoor work, and he accepted a position with the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.
"Mr. Mathias is survived by his wife, one son, Joseph, and three daughters, Mrs. Frank Stover, Miss Annie and Miss Jessie.
"The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Hello,
I am looking for the names of orphanges in Prestatyn, Wales from 1910-1926.

the right direction. "Surname" of relative "Dearden"

Tracing Joseph Henry and Elizabeth Marion (nee CURTIS)
LEVER. My grandmother Agnes May LEVER born in Wales 1890, siblings were Florence, birth date unknown,
Herbert Stanley LEVER born 1894 in Newport M., Joseph Henry LEVER born 1898, 173 Eldon Road, Canton, father listed as Omnibus Coachman. He is listed in a Cardiff directory for 1897 at living at 17 Clive Road and a Coal Dealer.
Their mother was sick and died young. Children are listed on "List of Inmates - Children Homes" in St. Mary, Cardiff where they were residents from 1903 to approx 1908 - Florence having died there sometime.
Joseph Henry was sent to Canada as a home boy in 1913.
Herbert Stanley remained in Wales and lived in Barry prior to his death. Agnes married Bertram Rupert WORSLEY in 1911 and her address at that time was 54 Broad Street, Barry. She emigrated to Canada in 1912 from England.
Don't know who parents of Joseph Henry LEVER and Elizabeth Marion CURTIS are, the dates of their birth or deaths.
I'm hitting brick walls with everything I search. Any help at all with either LEVER or CURTIS connections would be really appreciated.
Thank you.

Starting today (Monday, 10 June) and extending over several days, RootsWeb
is
going to be moving the list servers and other machines.
No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a
while when it happens; please don't post "why aren't I getting mail" during
that time.....you will when it comes back up, and you don't want half of it
to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. <g>
If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for
the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three.....
Thanks!

Hi
Ever hear of a Yank getting into trouble? I have been appointed as the organizer for Monmouthshire 1891 census.
This could be great trouble for me except that I know that there is great cooperation in the realm of genealogy.
I visited England in 1944 as a member of the United States Navy. I went to Normandy and back to England in an Army hospital in Newbury. The cooperation in those years was superb and I am in hopes that the same holds true today.
I need volunteers for the MONMOUTHSHIRE CENSUS PROJECT. Please help me, at present I only have 3 workers. But I have never ask for volunteers till now.
Please SWAMP me with your getting on the band wagon.
You would need access to a fiche reader. Many have been given one by business or banks that no longer use them. A local library of LDS library would have them. You would be sent the fiche and the only out of pocket expense would be to return them to me when you finish.
The software can be downloaded from the website mentioned below in my signature. After recording and sending back the packet of fiche you will be then sent another packet until the job is finished or you are no longer able to continue. Each packet is referred to, by the members of this project, as
a "piece" Usually there are about 3 fiche to a piece. The Fiche are in an envelope loaned to us by LDS, for the transcribing. The complete set of 1891 fiche will then need to be returned to LDS by us when the job is totally complete. I will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
ONE NEW THING: The 1891 census for Wales MUST be done with SSCENS because of the way the other programs handle Welsh names.

Hi,.
It might be an idea to subscribe to the Flintshire website, the old county
for Prestatyn. The website address is:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~
Choose Wales and you will see what is available. Someone living in that
area will have local knowledge.
These are the only Deardens on the 1881 Census, for Wales. I know its
earlier than you require but may be of interest and give you an area to
research. Llangwstennin is or was further along the coast to the west of
Prestatyn near Conwy.
I do hope someone can come up with some help or suggestions for you. Do you
know where the family originated that may help and I can look up Dearnden
for you in that area on the 1881 Census?
I am sorry that I can't be more helpful. Good luck with your research.

Margaret Harvey

Hello,
I am a new subscriber and require some direction and HOPE someone might be
able to help.
I require the names of orphanges (1910-1925) in Prestatyn, Wales.
I also would like to know where I might be able to write for information
about a child living there at that time. (Am I expecting too much?)
The family was split up after the death of their mother and father.....
1 boy went to Liverpool, 2 girls to a girls orphanage in Liverpool and the
eldest to Wales. Family surname "Dearden"
Many thanks,
Veronica
