Subject: FRENCH family
Hello all,
I am looking for a FRENCH (surname) family in particular
the family of Capt. Thomas W. French and his wife Sarah.
prior to 1842 when they removed themselves to St. John,
New Brunswick, Canada. If Capt. Thomas sailed with the
family is unknown, however mother Sarah age 50 in 1842,
Thomas age 25, William age 24, Louisa age 21, Lucy age
15. Capt. Thomas W. French was formerly of His Majesty's
47th Regiment. The above are the only children of Sarah
and Thomas as far as I know. Arthur's Obituary stated
that he was born in Wales, so have turned my search there,
however could be England. Any help or hints at all will
be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

Hi Ron,
I have just found some more information on Nanteos along with a telephone
number which is 01970 617756
<<It is a fine Georgian mansion built between 1739 and 1757 with carved oak
staircase, period kitchen, Victorian morning room and delightful music room.
Good example of the life enjoyed by Welsh nobility in the 18th and 19th
centuries. The name means "valley of the nightingale".
Opening hours: Easter weekend, then June to September daily 1300-1730>>
It is obviously a large house open to the public.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
Hi Ron,
I have done an advanced search on the 1881 Census and there is a a place
called Llanbadarn Fawr which is just south east of Aberystwyth. There are
two dwellings there with the name of Nanteos (one word). I had tried earlier
with the two words Nant Eos and nothing came up. There is an Agent living
in one dwelling and also a Butler, Housekeeper and Domestic Maid which means
that it is likely to be a large property with the owner away or living
elsewhere at the time of the Census There is a Land Agent living at a
separate entry headed Nanteos and it may be part of the main property or a
separate dwelling. There is also a Nanteos Lodge with a Gardener living
there.
I hope the above is of interest to you.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Hi Ron,
Do you think Abery Stewyth is Aberystwyth which is a seaside town in
Cardiganshire on the west coast of Wales? The National Library of Wales
is in Aberystwyth with an enormous amount of records for the family history
researcher.
The mailing lists more suited are the Cardiganshire one and the Dyfed one
where you will find people who know the area well. It would be a good idea
to stay subscribed to this one as well. You subscribe in the same way.

Hello Everyone:
I have information that my paternal great great grandparents, Johan "John"
Powell, and Leah Morgan Powell, were in charge of the holy grail in Nant Eos
and that they had a rather large home at Abery Stewyth.
In preparation for a trip to Wales in May by a cousin, I would like to ask if
anyone has any information on the above couple and/or Nant Eos or Abery

John and Leah migrated to America about 1841 so any data would have been
before that year.
If I have the wrong mailing list, could someone please tell me what mailing
list would have Nant Eos and Abery Stewyth.
I would like to thank you advance for your help.

Hello all
I am new to this list. I hope I'm on the right list for my posting.
My great grandmother was Charlotte Selina WHITTAKER. She was born in 1856 in Cardiff. I know very little about her background. I would love to know who her parents were, and if she had any brothers or sisters. I am trying to find her marriage record to William BIRD of Bilton Rugby Warwickshire England. In 1881 they had one son William aged 1. They had 11 children in all, then they separated after William, a labourer, was the recipient of £30,000 after the death of an aunt.
Would love to hear from other WHITTAKER researchers.
Regard
Janet

Searching for parents of Robert Jones who was born 31 Dec 1789. He married in Wigan, Lancashire, England, on 5 Jan 1807 to Alice Birchall who was born 25 Apr 1788. Several of their children were bp at St. Peters, Liverpool.
I was told many years ago, before I even thought of genealogy, that one of my g.g's was from Wales. Since Robert was the one to come to the USA, I'm thinking it may have been him. Isn't it possible for him to have been born in a part of Wales fairly near the England boarder??
I am mostly homebound due to severe lung disease requiring oxygen, so can't get out to search at a FHL.
Any assistance or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
