Hello Pete
Saw your note on the Wales - Gen and thought I would respond. I too have
been researching the Powell name in the Radnorshire area.
The time period is from 1600 +- to 1681 when Thomas Powell travels to
America with William Penn. The Quaker records show him to be from
Radnorshire, Wales-- another poece of information has him being born in
Holt
Denbighshire, then possibly moving to Radnorshire. He was found in
Quaker
records paying fines.
I do not know if this is anything to be considered, but the Powell
(Thomas)
name is noted as having come from Radnorshire.
Let me know
LT R Powell

I have more names and dates.......

I am hoping to learn more about the martin Family listed below, there is a
chance that the Edith listed is my Great Grandmother. There is some
circumstantial evidence that leads me to this belief, and am hoping to
verify, or rule out definitely. Any tips or further information would be
greatly appreciated.

In a car boot sale this weekend I picked up a book for just 25p, which might
interest list members. It is called "Cofeb y Dewrion" (Hero's Memorial) by
Rev. W.J. Owen.
It contains a short biography and usually a photograph of the men from Bangor
who died during World War 1
There is one page missing (details of Cadwaladr Glyn Roberts and James
Roberts).
If any body on the list has an ancestor from Bangor who died during the war,
I would be pleased to do a look up for them.
All the best

Hello everyone, Can anyone tell me how to find the address of my g/grandparents from Brynmawr. I've tried Kelly's directory but the only information I have of them is taken from my grandparents marriage certificate. JAMES REES a miner married CAROLINE PHILLIPS or SPERRING and lived in Brynmawr. but the family have always said they lived over the mountain ( from six bells that is) in CWM. Is there a list of some sort with miners names and addresses on it. I would be grateful if someone could give me a few pointers, thank you Coral.

Hello Listers,
I wonder if anyone is familiar with this name in Wales?
An old family story says that our GT GT Grandfather John Potticary came from Wales but I can find none on the IGI.
Any feedback most welcome
Thank you
Dee Parker
My letter on having a single list for Wales was sent to 10 Welsh lists, and
from the responses I have received seems to have been forwarded to at least
two others. It has generated a huge response, on and off list. I have had
over 300 e-mails on the subject! (although some were the same response posted
on more than one list, including one sent to all of the lists and copied to
me off list on each occasion). It is a credit to all of the Welsh lists that
each response has been polite and constructive, without even the smallest of
flames being thrown.
The general opinion has been against having a single list for Wales, only 5
out of the 300+ letters being in agreement. A further eight people, who were
opposed to the idea of an all Wales list, thought that there should be a
reduction. It appears however, from comments made by the Gwynedd and
Denbighshire list owners, that there is little point in continuing the
discussion because Rootsweb has a policy of never, ever, closing down a list.
Seven individuals commented that an all Wales list discussing family history
matters through the medium of the Welsh language might be a useful addition
to the current provision. I passed these on to Rootsweb, who agreed to host
such a list. It is hopped that this list will be active from the beginning of
next week. It will be known as GWREIDDIAU-L(a)rootsweb.com
Further details will be sent out shortly.
All the best

Hello Listers,
Several days ago there was a reference to the slow start from the Gwynedd
mailing list. Alwyn ap Huw agreed with this point, but went on to say that
he thought there should be a Wales list, as everyone would have family ties
with south Wales as well.He did this on the Clwyd,Gwynedd and Powys lists. At
this point I explained why the Gwynedd list was slow, and disagreed with him
about having a Wales list to replace Anglesey,Caernarfonshire,
Denbighshire,Breconshire etc. Since then there have been many e-mails on
this subject, on the Clwyd, Gwynedd and Powys lists, and as far I can see
all disagree with Alwyn.
Yvonne Edwards and Vic Roberts, the list administrators for Gwynedd and
Clwyd, have gone on to explain the position. They have no choice- they have
to include the pre 1974 counties, slow or not.I passed on the views of
Yvonne for the benefit of Powys listers. From the reaction of all the
e-mails so far, I don't think we will be having a Wales list in the near
future. I would imagine that by now even Alwyn is having second thoughts.
I'm glad to say that since this subject came up, the Gwynedd list is no
longer slow. For those who have subscribed please keep sending those e-mails,
and give Yvonne a chance.
Diolch yn fawr.
Regards,
Stan.

My g-g-grandfather, apparently from Caernarfon, was a baritone of some
success who traveled the world performing in concert halls. Richard Hughes
either had the middle name or nickname of Llewarfon. I do not know his date
of birth, date of death, or wife's name, and I am trying to fill in the
gaps.
His descendents ended up in Ohio, USA. He died of heart or liver failure at
the age of thirty-six. His only child that we are aware of was my
G-grandfather Hugh Robert Hughes, who married Gladys Gabrelle Thackara, also
of Ohio. Gladys was born in about 1888, and Hugh was about twice her age
when they married, putting his birth in the arena of 1870-75. Hugh died of
heart failure at about forty.
I have more info after this point I'd be happy to share, but I am hoping to
find someone with info on the family when it was in Wales. Can anyone offer
advice? I have wondered if Richard may be found somehow in relation to his
performing, but being in Oregon, USA does not make the process easy.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Rachel Slansky
I am new on this listing, so I would like some assistance or guidance from
the listers of this listings. I am trying to find my ancestors lineage.
Robert's father was Harold Ewyas de Mantes who was married to Matilda Lupus.
Can anyone give some info on this matter? Respects to this listing and users.
