Can anyone tell me what newspaper had obituaries for people who died in 1870 -1890 in Bedwellty, Tredegar, Wales? Is the newspaper still in existence? Where would I write for copies of old obituaries in that area? Need an address.
I am still trying to find the burial records of relatives - also need memorial inscription and place of burial for Robert Pugh from Bedwelty, who died in January of 1870.
Any help would be appreciated tremendously.

I live near Llandudno, although my family are from south and mid Wales.
However the Llandudno and Conwy LOWEs also have a branch in Barmouth, a
member of which has married my aunt. My cousin Anthony LOWE is a great nephew
of the famous LOWE of the Titanic.
I only have very general information about this part of my family, but if you
would send me what you have I can pass it on to my cousins to see if they can
help.

Lots of people responding to Welsh County and Name lists suggest "visiting
your local LDS centre" for information.
Are there any LDS centers in Wales?
Having broken down in Brecon and towed all the way back to Llandudno by the
RAC last week, if there are none in the North, are there any in border
counties accessible to North Wales?
Hello,
I am new to the list and wishing to learn something about the MORGAN family
of Bassaleg, Monmouthshire.
In the IGI there is a birth:
Henry, son of Edward and Mary, born March 10, 1780 at Bassaleg.
This birthdate corresponds to that of a Henry Morgan who came to Canada
sometime before 1830.
I believe he is the father of Alexander Morgan who claims to have been born
in Ireland in 1823, son of Henry and Margaret who were both born in
England. If that fact is true, Henry would have married Margaret....., then
lived in Ireland at least during 1823 or possibly earlier.
My problem is that there is no direct proof of lineage and there are a
number of contradictions in material that I have researched. That makes it
really important to investigate this birthdate that coincides so beautifully
with a known date that I have.
I would really, really like to hear from anyone else researching MORGAN or
that can give me any information that would help me determine whether this
is my ancestor - or not:)
Many thanks,
Marjorie,
Ontario, Canada.
Was it more common to catch a ship in England than in Wales if you were
coming to the US 1800-1850? If so, is there one port that it more common?
Which is the most common US port to arrive in during those years? Thanks.

Universities in the Cardiff area in the 1920. Can anyone tell me the names
of them as g-father won a scholarship to attend one however he did not
finish his studies but ran away to Australia. As we have very little
information on him, we know that he lived with relatives in the Cardiff
area, perhaps his school years are documented and this would give us a
start.

I am trying to narrow my search for my Greatgreatgrandfather who came to the US from Wales before 1853, when his son was born in MD. Does anyone have ships' names or passenger lists from that time period. I only know this man's last name was DAVIS (sorry!) but I believe it would have to be from 1800-53 that he came over. I do not know the port he arrived at. Any info would be most appreciated. Thank you! Mona
I am new to the list and I'm hoping someone can help with these two family
names.
I have Jane GRIFFITHS who was born approx. 1847. She was married about 1870
to John RATCLIFFE born in Cheshire but I have no idea where they were
married. On the 81 census it states that Jane was born in Pemberton,
Carmarthen but on the 91 census it states Merionethshire. It goes from one
end of Wales to the other. I would like to find Jane's parents and any
siblings. The only other information is that Jane had a nephew Edward
ROBERTS.
The other I am seeking is Ann ROBERTS (no relation to the above Edward
ROBERTS) born 1827 Denbighshire. She was married in 1859 in Manchester
Cathedral. I would also like to find Ann's parents and any siblings in
Wales.
Thank-you

I am researching the Yonge family of Bristol England, 1200s. I recently determined that the Yonge/Young family descended from (Wales):
Morgan ap Iowerth Voel
Iowerth Voel ap Iorwerth Vychan
Iorwerth Vychan ap Iorwerth Gam
Iorwerth Gam ap Owen
Owen ap Blethin
I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this family. I would also appreciate any suggestions of books concerning Wales before 1300. I am new to this list and really look forward to reading all of the messages. Thanks

Hi Listers,
Can anyone help me find the burial place and inscription on the headstone of my great-great grandmother's second husband, Robert Pugh? Mary Darcy Roberts Pugh and Robert Pugh lived at 42 Morgan Street, Uchlawrcoed in 1861. Robert died 7 Jan 1870, Regis. Dist. Bedwellty, Tredegar, Co. of Monmouth. His burial was in the St. George
Register on 14 Jan 1870; however, they do not have a burial ground there. I have been told he may be buried in one of the local cemeteries, Cefn Golau, Dukestown, Bedwellty Parish Church (as Tredegar was once part of Bedwellty Parish), or possibly another church burial ground in that vicinity. Robert Pugh was a furniture broker according to his death certificate. Mary had a grandson, John Herbert Jenkins, Civil Engineer, who was the informant on the death certificate. He was son of Isaac Jenkins, watchmaker, (who lived at 18 Castle Street in 1851) and Emily Roberts. Any information on this family, including a marriage record for Robert and Mary (date unknown, but after 1829) would be appreciated. Also, am looking for Robert Pugh's family. He was born in Dolgelly between 1790 - 1805. Mary Darcy Roberts Pugh was born in Granard, Longford, Ireland.
I am new to the list, and after reading the messages, am greatly impressed by your helpfulness.
Sincerely, Norma in Utah

Hello and thanks for joining WALES-GEN.
Firstly, I shall introduce myself, I am Julie Goucher responsible for the
list administration for this list and my deputy is Carol of Tree Tops.
http://freespace.virgin.net/tree.tops/
For those of you who have not come across Tree Tops before I have appended
brief details and Carol's web page details & email address to the end of
this message.
The purpose of this list is for us to share and communicate regarding our
Welsh ancestors and for us all to benefit from the list. I am not a great
one for rules, except to say that I don't like flaming. Please treat
everyone as you want to be treated. This is YOUR list and I would like
WALES-GEN to be a friendly, helpful list, and a list that grows and
develops as we increase our subscribers.
I was recently contacted by a researcher in Australia, who asked if there
was a general list for Wales. It transpired that unless you knew exactly in
Wales where your ancestors hailed from you either had to join all the Welsh
county lists or take pot luck. I simply agreed, I ran the idea passed
Carol, who also has Welsh connections! and Wales-Gen was born. The Gen is
indicating both general and genealogy.
Please try and keep on topic, however, I am not so bad that I insist on
nothing else being discussed, my view is that if YOU find a particular topic
of interest then other subscribers may also. One definite No-No is Rugby!!,
unless it has an historical aspect to the discussion!
Please try and post messages to the correct address. Emails to
WALES-GEN-l-request(a)rootsweb.com will simply bounce to me. This is the
Unsubscribe or subscribe address, and you don't want to leave so soon!.
Postings should be made to the following address WALES-GEN-l(a)rootsweb.com
If you have any problems and you think I can help please email me at
list.owner(a)virgin.net and I assist if I can.
Lastly, Enjoy the list.

Hi Judy,
I was very excited when I read your message and hoped for a family
coonection. My wife was a DAVIES and her gt uncle Alfred DAVIES, born in
Tenby, Pembrokeshire came to Canada in 1882. His wife followed with their
infant daughter soon after and they settled in Galt where he worked as a
stonemason. I am looking for any of his descendents. However I do not think
that he was related to your Alfred DAVIES which is a pity!!

Forgive what may seem to be a stupid question, but my maps have rather
ambiguous border lines, so could someone please tell me if Monmouth is in
Wales, or Gloucestershire?
Thank you,

Hello there
I am descended from ALFRED DAVIS b. 1838 below. He was my great
grandfather. My father told me George Davis originally came from Wales. I am
sure this is a long shot but does anyone know anything about this family. I
know there are hundreds of Davis/Davies out there. As you can see the
children were born in Kent but they used the two ways of spelling the last
name.

I know that there are many people in America researching their forebears in
Caernarfonshire, so may I put a different slant on things?
I am trying to trace descendants of

I understand he moved to Utica (?NY State) and had 2 children
VIOLA and

I would dearly like to find out more of the family in the States. Can anyone
help?
