Hi Celia.
I am one of those that supports an ethics and standard statement. The
one proposed by the Board would have easy for any of us to have lived up
to. Even me<g>.....
I don't want to go into to much detail because it is a lonnnnnng
story. But one of the CC's in another state was a known pornographer. A
personality war raged on -ALL most of the fall fueled by this man. He
finally declared on -ALL that he was going partners on an adult page
starting in January 1999 and then disappeared. He is no longer part of the
project.
The Project had no way of removing him from his county without his
permission. He was even running for a Board position, because, IMO he
could
and wanted to and because he knew he was making people angry.
I have had kids use my county pages. So, stop for a minute and
imagine the reaction of a parent finding out that their child was talking
genealogy with a pornographer.
And for that reason alone I support an ethics and standard statement.
Thank you for your time
Darilee

To All Wagenweb,
I must apologize for leaving you out of a circle. Let me know if you
feel
differently than I do.
For the last 10 days or so the State Coord. list has been discussing the
need of a posted Code of Ethics for volunteers. I read some of the
email
that stuffed my mailbox while I took a vacation. When I finally realized
they were voting on this subject, I thought a minute and decided to vote
"no", we don't need a posted code of ethics. My
reasoning was that a
posted code will not stop much of the stupid behavior that has gone on
before and the more rules there are the fewer volunteers because it
is a
pain to keep up with what appears to be ever changing rules. At
least in
this state, there have been no problems to date. You all do your jobs,
more or less, within the guidelines.
Anyway, if you care or have questions or comments, let me know. At first
I was the only one who voted no, but now there are a few others.
I'll let you know if you have to learn the code,
Celia Tomlin
