Hi to all WA GenWeb County Coordinators,
Now that the USGW elections are over for a few months, we can all catch up
on the backlog of work on our pages. I would like to welcome to the project
those new coordinators who have recently taken over their respective
counties. I am the Manager of the US GenWeb Archives for Washington, and am
responsible for a number of areas in the WA GenWeb Project, including
maintaining over 85 separate webpages and about 400 datafiles in the WA
Archives, directing the Washington Cemetery and Census Projects, and being
the person responsible for all online data and copyright issues in WA
GenWeb. Sometimes I even find time to work on my three Washington counties.
As Director of the Washington Cemetery Project, and Washington Coordinator
of the USGW Tombstone Transcription Project, I am developing comprehensive
cemetery pages for each of Washington's 39 counties. Each county's page
will list (more extensively and accurately than any published list to date)
all known cemeteries, with all known alternate names, and the exact
location of the cemetery on the Federal Land Survey (sometimes called the
legal description). In addition, the page will note which cemeteries are
currently being transcribed in the project, and those which are already
complete and online (with a link directly to the online file). This is a
very ambitious undertaking, which I have already put countless hours into,
but I wanted to let you all know what is being done, and how far it has
progressed.
Counties which have been completed so far, with their page URL's:
Benton

Clallam /clallcem.htm
Douglas /dougcem.htm
Franklin /frankcem.htm
Garfield /garcem.htn
Grant /grantcem.htm
Island /islcem.htm
Jefferson /jeffcem.htm
Mason /mascem.htm
San Juan /sjcem.htm
Wahkiakum /wahcem.htm
I will announce future individual county cemetery pages here on Wagen-L as
they are ready. As soon as the individual cemetery page is online for your
county, you are expected to link directly to it from your county GenWeb
page. A few county GenWebs already have extensive cemetery information
pages, and they may retain those, but are still expected to link to the
project page for their county. I would appreciate it if the coordinators of
the above mentioned counties could take care of this at their earliest
convenience, if not already done. CC's, I need your help to provide the
most complete and accurate information possible. Please take a moment to
look over the information for your county, and let me know of any missing
or incorrect entries. Thank you for your help, and please don't hesitate to
come to me with any questions.
On a slightly related note, we are receiving the transcription of the 1860
Federal Census of Washington Territory, a county at a time, in the
Washington GenWeb Census Project. County files currently online include
Clallam, Jefferson, Whatcom (including modern San Juan and Skagit), Island
(including modern Snohomish), Sawamish (Mason), and Kitsap. If you are CC
of any of these counties you should have a link to your 1860 census on your
page. If you still don't, please take care of this right away. If you need
any help or don't know where to find it please message me.
Thanks everyone, and have a great rest of your summer!
