Joanna,
If Washington state non profit laws have credit here why ask the AG for

The USGenWeb Project, as a group of volunteers participating in a
not-for-profit organization, is considered to be an "Unincorporated
Non-Profit Association."
There was much discussion of these matters on USGENWEB-ALL. The board's
intention is NOT to be a corporation, since the majority of county
coordinators have voted against even discussing incorporation. In any
case, neither declaring this status nor adopting by-laws will protect
against copyright infringement, which looks to me like the most serious
*potential* liability of the membership.
If in fact your asking Janet Reno for a voice in
usgenweb.org by laws
better not count on a speedy reply.
I asked only if the Uniform Unincorporated Non-Profit Association Act had
been passed by the Washington legislature, since from what I could find
on a Web search only Texas recognizes this form of organization. The
AG's office has a little email form on the Web page. I gave my postal
address so that they can send me info.
does your opinion on the by-laws
mean you are a lawyer or paralegal or a court officer? please
explain.....
I'm an ordinary citizen who tries to stay informed about legal matters
pertinent to my activities. I have many years' experience with
Washington non-profit educational corporations, as a board member, as
president, and on by-laws committees, elections committees, and
nominations committees. Washington law has strict requirements about
doing these things legally if you want to keep your non-profit status.
I've also been involved in writing and publishing for 25 years. If you
have more information than I do on this stuff, please post it so we can
all know.
Regards,
Joanna
